Do you know?

Postby bsxiong » Wed Apr 05, 2006 3:26 pm

another nerdy question again :)
The last time i had this kind of question up, some people thought that i was being a being concieded and was bad mouthing me, But it was all just meant to be fun as i mention :) Something to think about. :)
Ok, here goes,
we see them everyday. We teach them,we require them, we need them......you get my drift.
How many people know what these mean:

A.M. , P.M. , Zip(code)

I think zip is an abbreviated or an acronym, but not sure.

If you know what they mean, give a HOLLAR'!

OK with out looking them up.
AM and PM are acronyms for some Latin term for before noon and past noon
Zip is also an acronym, zone, something, plan

Am means anti meridian or something, and pm post meridian? or past meridian?

And we don’t have zip code in England so I’ve NOOOO idea what that means.

Am i close?

am- ante meridian
pm- post meridian

meridian being the mid-point.. (hence the Greenwich Meridian)..

ZIP stands for Zoning Improvement Plan.. introduced in the 1960's to cope with the increasing volume of mail being delivered by the postal service..
