Computer freezes

Postby Quickshot55 » Sat Aug 13, 2011 11:45 pm

Hi,
I have this brand new computer that has been freezing on me whenever I do stuff like watch youtube videos or run media player. If I am playing a game it will not freeze, unless firefox is open in the background. I can't seem to figure out why it would be doing this. Any suggestions would be great. Here is the logfile.

HijackThis is designed to work on 32 bit operating systems. Your log indicates that you are running a 64 bit operating system. Unfortunately, HijackThis is incapable of producing an accurate log for 64 bit systems. like all the '(file missing)" references.

You should not attempt any sort of fix based on the information in that HijackThis log.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location.
Please post contents of that file in your next reply.

Nothing malicious was found. Do you think it could be hardware related? As a last resort we want to reformat the computer and see if that helps.

The first thing I would do is check your Event Viewer for events related to the freezing.

Go to Start > Control panel > Administrative tools > System and Maintenance > Event viewer > look in the system section.

You are looking for any red or yellow icons, double click on the icon.
Click inside the 'Description' section then highlight the text and copy and paste it into notepad.
At the bottom of the event window check 'words' and then copy and paste that text also
Then past it all into your reply to this thread.

If you don't show any errors in the event viewer then:
Go to Start > Control Panel > System > Advanced tab > Startup and Recovery section
Settings button > System Failure section > check the box 'Write an event to the system log'

Next I would check the ram using Memtest86 create a bootable media and let it run at least 2 hours.

I am running on windows 7 some of the things you told me to do like check 'words' was not there. At the bottom of the event windows there was a button that said copy, so I copied the whole thing and put it in notepad. There seem to be 2 errors that occur pretty frequently and here they are:

From what I can find it looks like there is an issue with the video driver or maybe the video card itself.

Try completely uninstalling you video display driver from both programs and features and device manager and then install the generic drivers built in Windows 7 and check if it helps you fix the issue.
While uninstalling the device, make sure you place a check mark against "Delete the driver software for this device".

Restart the computer and allow Windows to load the generic drivers and check if it works fine without crashing your computer.

So I took out the graphics card and put in a completely different one, and it still froze up. Any other ideas?

We're waiting on you Gecko. If all hope is lost we are gonna try reformatting the computer before we send it back and get a new one off the wonderful warranty. It's alright to admit that you are not sure what is going on with it, we are all human.

Quickshot55,

Well it could be your RAM have you run any tests on your ram like Memtest86?

You could also try running a chkdsk on the hard drive, select properties for the hard drive and select Tools > Error checking, check the box for Auto fixing system files, click Start, you'll have to restart the system for the chkdsk to run.
