joolsd,

From what I could find if the MS Fixit failed and so did the manual fix, there is a chance you have a malware infection.
What type of Anti-virus/Anti-Malware program do you have installed?

I have no idea what malware it could be. I would suggest trying the free Malwarebytes Anti-Malware software.

Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to your desktop and run the install. During the install uncheck the box for the 14 day trial, just use the free install. Check for Updates once it's updated then run a Full scan.

When Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is finished it will produce a log, paste the contents of that log into your next reply.

Well Malwarebytes did find a known malware that does change Internet Explorer, let's use another tool to check further and to restore what was changes in I,E.

Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
The tool will open and start scanning your system.
Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.

Good, now let's see if you can reset Internet Explorer:

Open Internet Explorer goto “wrench” icon in top right corner Select Internet Options
Go to tab Advanced Select Reset button Enable Delete personal Settings Click Reset button
Restart Internet Explorer

If I.E. still crashes Try the FixIt you first posted

Sorry Gecko,

I did all you said and no Joy. I just wondered if it was worth trying to re-install IE.

I think I tried this but it said something like....'Could not install because an earlier install did not finish.'

I think I also ran the fix it for clearing UN-installed programs, however would you believe it... IE wasn't even in the list, but it did ask me for a product code. How the hell am I going to know that!? LOLs

Also another weird problem MSCONFIG won't stay on normal start up. Even when you apply it goes straight back to selective start up. That is just plain creepy.

joolsd,

That's a lot of things not working and based on the other removal programs finding thing I'm going to recommend another more aggressive tool.
Do not deviate from the below instructions this is a powerful tool and if used incorrectly it can make your system un-bootable!

Please download combofix to your desktop.

Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with ComboFix.

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.

If combofix will not start or is ended before the "Blue window" please rename combofix.exe to cbf.exe and try again.

If cbf.exe will not start or is ended, you will have to run cbf.exe from safe mode.
Reboot in to Safe mode:
Restart Windows after you see the BIOS screen and before Windows starts to load.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears.
Use the Arrow key to ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

Do not exit Combofix while it is running you my loose all your personal settings!
Important Note - Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running, that may cause it to stall.

When it's done running it will produce a log for you. Please post that log in your next reply.

Sorry for the late reply, I have flatterned the whole machine. And re-installed WIN7

I suspect something has corrupted in the system, with the relentless problems. Whats more the machine is still freezing or black screening, eventhough I have re-installed window. See viewtopic.php?f=4&t=13585

So I am going to send the mahine to the PC shop down the road. I need them to inspect the hardware, and do a overall confidence test. I am spending too muh time trying to fix my PC, which is in all honesty quite an old one.

Thank you for your help though. I really appreciate it.
