Missing Operating System after System Restore

Postby Sargmaster » Fri Sep 26, 2014 1:50 am

A friend of mine has a Sony VAIO all in one computer. She had a virus on the machine and I installed Norton 360 on it. After the install I told Norton to check for updates. It said an hour wait, so I left, when I came back it stated "Missing Operating System". I went to the Recovery Wizard and pulled the files off the disk that she wanted. We then told the wizard to restore back to factory default. It said 100% and then said it needed to reboot. After the VAIO logo went off the screen on boot up, it went back to saying missing operating system. I have done this three times with the same result.

Anything else I can try?

Thanks for the help

Sargmaster,

If you were able to get some files off the hard drive then it doesn't sound like the drive is bad.

Have you tried booting into safe mode?

Restart the computer after you see the VAIO BIOS screen and before Windows starts to load.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears.
Use the Arrow key to ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
