A very important messege to all PC Techforums members!

Postby PCguy » Sat May 22, 2004 6:09 am

Now that I have your attention. hehehe Mean trick, I know.

Anyway, I just wanted to take the time to invite one and all to share some time with me. (No you can't come to my house) But I do hang out online quite a bit. You might be thinking it's really hard to find me. It can be. But now is your chance. I have chatted with a few of you and now I think it's only fair that the whole gang meet and greet.

So here is what I would like to do. IRC is where I always am. I believe we have a How To for IRC as well. So let's make a date and all meet in the #pctech channel.

If you don't know how to use IRC and want help, let me know. Myself and liljim can help. As a matter of fact, you can actually chat with liljim every now and then on IRC. :)

So come one come all. Let's set a date and have some fun! Best of all, everyone gets to make fun of me in real time. You have no idea how enjoyable that is. (I do it to myself all the time.)

I have never used IRC. Do you have to have an account AIM?

You should look into IRC Ranger Bob (everyone else too). Its a chatroom enviroment where everyone can chat together but not as hectic as average rooms.

Ranger Bob, you almost got it.

For trillian pro (thats what i use also)

open the connection manager

Image

Add>IRC

Once the server manager opens, put irc.astrolink.org on port 6660

You can leave your nick as rangerbob, dont really need an alternate.

Click the Perform Buffer tab and put a check in "on connection perform these commands"

In the box below type /join #pctech

Image

then create and connect

(end result in connection manager)
Image

it should automaticly open the pctech channel when you connect now.

Image

Give that a shot and let me know what happens :)

*the partially connected message means you have something "setup" that isnt connected.Remove US and US DALnet and you shouldnt get that anymore.

Thanks Jim. I actually figured most of that out and got in a little earlier but I don't appear in the OPS group but in the other group. Here is what I have entered in my command line. Is what you have shown above better to use?

Image

I guess I had thought it would work a little more like AIM and I would be able to see people logged on in Trillian without having to be logged in IRC with an active screen.

Edit... Never mind Jim. I just tried what you had and it works much better than what I have. I was getting two or three tabs the way I was doing but with your way I only get the one tab when I connect and it places me in the Normal group. :)
