One never realizes how good this site is until you go join another site and see what happens.

Here is what happened to me:
I joined another site because I saw it was relatively new and people were having problems. I posted in the site and offered some help. One person was working with Hijack This but unfortunately some problems were reoccuring. I suggested manual removal was a good method when all else failed and suggested how to do it.

I also tried to suggest that once we had our system cleaned out SpywareGuard was a good piece of software to help keep it clean.

This morning I got an email from the site about my post. It was suggested to me that I should not post in this particular forum (Hijack This) because I was not a member of the HJT team and if I wished to be a member I should go to a schooling site, pass a test and apply to become a member. It was also suggested the site mainly relied on HJT alone to resolve issues.

Once I viewed this post I realized just how good this site is. The other site made me feel there was a sense of power issues and because I was a newbie there I had no technical knowledge at all.

Ok, Im off on a defecting mission  Daniel

Thats a shame badpolarbear, sorry you had a bad experience in another forum.
Here at PCTech we take ideas and suggestions from everyone who would like to express them. We also leave the log file reading up to brad, or at least I do, because I feel I'm not qualified to give instructions on removal yet. Out of all the forums I've visited, this ones definately the BEST !

Stay with the best and **** the rest (hehe  )

what do you mean "try" to be friendly?

you guys are "always" friendly

am also a member of other forums and at most they go about abusing one another from time to time especially newbies joining which is sad then never comes back

have suggested to some of my friends this site and a few might have registered

cheers

I think the word Newbie and assume go hand in hand. In the site I was refering to they had a little splash screen in the upper right corner with terms used in the pc world. Newbie was one of them and the definition was some one with little or no technical pc knowledge. So when some members of these forums see "Newbie" they automatically assume the person is a pc ditz.

I think what a lot of sites should do is find a way to determine a persons ability when they join a forum. There could be a little section in the application to join saying "What is your pc ability", Newbie, Amateur, Advanced, Expert etc. Then they may want to change Newbie to New Member and then add the ability level. Not only would this eliminate the assumption of the persons ability but it would give the regular members, moderators and administrator a good idea of just how technical they can get with the member and responde to posts accordingly.

I think one thing that annoys some regular members of some forums is when a Newbie walks in a room and offers advice to someone, advice that the regular member was not able to offer. It is possible to that the Newbie could be an employee of some major software programing company but because his status is Newbie he doesnt know what he is talking about.

I think when we see the word Newbie we should not assume because when we assume we make an ASS out of U and ME.

Thank you for the kind words. Hopefully this place will stay that way, since it's my vision of the site. :)
