FTP SERVER ???

hi i followed the guide for setting up a bullet proof server, except i have a different router, i did the same things like set up ports and the local ip but i cannot connect to it from my dynamic ip. i think it is because my router is stealing the ftp site, because i can log onto my dynmaic ftp site using my admin account for my router which is the same ftp site as for my router addres xxx.xxx.xxx.02, any ideas??? P.S i can log on to my ftp site using my local ip address xxx.xxx.xxx.04 fine ?? HELP :-D
