Can anyone suggest the best way to go about learning some basic PHP coding?

I have recently begun work on a website and trying to take the easy option, being a newbie to website design, I purchased a template which is coded in PHP.

I am trying to customise my template to make it more original, using Dreamweaver as an editing tool. I can handle some of the very basic changes through trial and error etc but I would really like to gain some basic knowledge of PHP which would help me in this sort of task.

Any reccomendations of where to start?

Thanks.

Hi Sharon. I would like to recommend W3Schools, http://www.w3schools.com/.
They cover the basics on web technologies, not only with PHP.

Hope that helps.

The book is a good start, but I started a trial, error, and some more errors.Has been doing, but believe me, a few years ago is a learning experience worth remembering. But one professional person has taught very much about the basics of the PHP.
So you should have some craze for learning the PHP.

The PHP Bible is the best way. The tech bible series are almost always worth the investment. I also agree that for very basic PHP knowledge W3Schools.com works well, but once you get going you will need to look beyond those tutorials sooner than you might initially estimate.

Hello,

I would also suggest W3Schools.com. You could also try Practical PHP Programming (http://www.tuxradar.com/practicalphp). Another thing I would recommend is an SMS example done with PHP ozekisms.com. Hope the provided information will be useful.
