Let me run this one past you'all......
When I start up my laptop, first of all, I get error messages and it involves resetting the year, month, and day. Also have to put the correct time in, then boot up. Could this be a pancake battery problem? If so, how involved is it to change out.
Second, when I set the correct time, it then tells me I have a 192 error and investigating it, its hard disk related.
Now......checking the System Properties, I noticed under Device Manager....under Hard disk controllers, I have (2) Standard Bus Mastering IDE Hard Disk Controllers. Viewing properties under hard disk, they seem the same except for the Resources. Interrupt Request's are different as well as Input/Output Range. Now I have only (1) hard drive, a 3GB.
Could this be causing my start up problem (192). If so, which one do I remove or should I remove both and reboot and let laptop detect it?

I've done a quick search on this and it all points to needing a new cmos battery(even error 192).
The battery isnt like a desktop battery,here's a link to one

I cant really say how hard it is to get into the machine to change it,never opened up a thinkpad myself but i wouldnt think its all that bad.I would change the battery first then check back on the IDE controller issue.

I found the battery and will check Comp USA to see if they carry them. If not, I'll order one off the link you provided.

liljim...........got a new battery, installed it and cleared my 192 problem.

Now for the second question about having 2 hard disk drivers in Device Manager. (Read initial post).

Its normal to have 2 hard disk controllers.You should have a primary and a secondary controller but it should only list 1 hard disk.If you dont have and yellow exclamation marks next to any of them i wouldnt worry about it.
