1 out 3 times when i close explorer or switch windows in the task bar i get an Explorer has caused an invalid page fault in module unknown. I even reinstalled win98 and i still get it. whats up! :mad:

before i reinstalled it windows was updated and i was still having this problem

Can you copy the error message exactly as you see it on your screen? Maybe take a snapshot...

Are there any programs you're using when you get this error besides IE? I found this article here http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... us;Q302463

If all else fails, you could use Mozilla Firefox.

It's not a problem with IE it's a problem with windows explorer.
EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in

the first area to look would be the power supply, and the cpu fan. The power supply usually starts to emit a strong plastic smell before thy go bad. Bad cpu fans can be real noisy or real quiet--cat fur is a real killer

If those are ok,I would tend to suspect the memory sticks. If the system worked reasonably well for 3 or 4 years and it just started, the memory could be suspect. the first step would be to reseat the ram.

Also check the capacitors on the motherboard see if they are leaking or corroded--thats a real bad sign

Well nothing smells like plastic my cpu fan isn't really loud or quiet. i didn't see anything corroded, and what do you mean by reseat the memory.
And how would all this cause an explorer error. I'm going to rum dr.watson and post what it says.

Reseat the memory, take it out and put it back in, making sure it's in properly.

You might try swapping out the power supply.

At this point, its either a software issue as you seem inclined to believe or a hardware issue.

To eliminate the software issue you would need to put in a hard drive with a new OS on it and see if it errors out--if you have an old 1/2 gig drive, that would work just fine for a new install---The install would do a pretty good scan for defective hardware and if it completed sucessfully, would narrow down your search.

One possible question that hasn't been asked, is how current is your virus scan software?
