Constant IE Errors on Windows ME

Postby Tsegamla » Thu Dec 04, 2003 5:09 am

Hello, on many random sites I visit, IE keeps acting up. Sometimes I'll click on a link and the window just closes. Other times I'll click on a link and it'll give me a message saying "Explorer has caused an error in MSHTML.DLL / Explorer will now close." I've been trying to ignore it, but there are several sites that I really want to visit and doing school reports by simply trying to find sites that work is tedious. It does this on many sites and if it does it on a site once, it'll always do it (I can't visit the tabs section of www.tabit.net).

Thanks for any help.

What version of IE are you running? If you don't have 6.0 sp1 then you need to update. Go to and check for updates to get the latest version.
If you do have the lastest IE then you might try this fix for WinMe:

Click Start, click Run, type msconfig, and then click OK.
Click Extract.
Type ie_1.cab, and then click Start.
In the Restore from field, type c:\windows\windows update setup files.
In the Save as field, type c:\windows\windows update setup files, and then click OK.
When you receive a prompt to back up the file to C:\Windows\Helpdesk\Sfc, click Yes or OK.
If you receive the following prompt, click Yes or OK:
"The backup folder does not exist. Do you want to create it?"

If you receive a dialog box that says: "The file was successfully extracted", click OK.
Click Start, click Run, type msconfig, and then click OK.
Click Extract
Type mshtml.dll, and then click Start.
In the Restore from field, type c:\windows\windows update setup files.
In the Save as field, type c:\windows\system, and then click OK.
When you receive a prompt to back up the file to C:\Windows\Helpdesk\Sfc, click Yes or OK.
When you receive a dialog box that says: "The file was successfully extracted", click OK.
Close System File Checker and then restart the computer.

Let us know if this helped.......
