I have a booting problem that always give an error message: "Operating system not found" on every starup. I have to restart several times and sometimes have to turn power OFF and back ON for it to work and sometimes it boots right on the second attempt . All cables, connections...are ok. I scan disk and defragment with no errror or bad sector, also scan with no virus, so I don't know what the problem is since everything works fine after the booting. Please help, thanks!

Do you have this problem on cold boots or only with restarts or both? Do you have all Windows updates applied?

Problem on cold boots only, after that it runs great with no problem. All window updates applied. I notice that if after the HP logo with blue screen loaded for a few seconds and turned to black screen then it will boot normally, otherwise the HP logo and blue screen will hang for longer and 2 beeps right after that then it comes with the black DOS screen and the error:" Operating system not found".
Any idea what's going on?

I'm not sure, but you could always test your memory and/or hard drive, just to make sure there's nothing wrong there.
You could also look in the mobo book for the 2 beep code and determine what it refers to.

It happened once in a while before but now it does on every startup (cold boot only)...I've backed up my data often and I'm sure there's no conflict with hardware or software.

Same problem as described above. "Operating Sys. Not Found" or PXE-problems about "Media cable not attached" then OS error.
I have a Thinkpad T23. 40Gig IBM HD. 1.13Ghz Running Win2K.

On a Cold boot - at times it hangs on the IBM Thinkpad logo. (doesn't hang on warm boots.)
I go into Bios (which takes longer time than normal to do) and try to change boot sequence, but nothing helps.
FDisk and another HD utility say there is no Physical Drive attached when it has this problem.

Let the computer sit for a while - and sometimes it will boot. It seems if I leave it constantly charging it boots okay, but if I make any change to it (swap a drive, remove phone line, etc..) it doesn't boot for the next while.

Please help! I've opened it and assured all connections are tight and memory and HD are connected well.
- Also I updated the Bios and Embedded controller and HD firmware.
Problem still intermittently occurs!
Thanks for listening! Any ideas? No warranty on this baby.
I do have a weak Battery(Li-ion gets 20 or so minutes) - Don't want to replace that if it's not the problem.

My HD is accessible, it has a Screw that holds it in - but I'll try pushing on it while it boots (with and without that screw in place).
I'm not sure what adapter I need to hook it to my desktop.

is it this whole contraption I need? or is there something more basic and cheap? I think this was only $12 but...
