ctjonb,

It could be your system restore size is set high.
Click Start > Run and type
sysdm.cpl and press enter
System restore tab, use the slider bar to adjust.

What size is the hard drive and how full is it?

ctjonb,

There is no real "proper setting" for the size of your system restore.
I look at it as a proportional thing, if your HD is 80 gigs then 10% would be approximately 8 gigs.
If you HD is 500 gigs then 10% would be 50 gigs more than windows really needs for restoring.

well I just decided to start fresh and partition and format, I just could not get the free disk space below 2 mgs free on the C drive ?
So I deleted everything, backing up important things prior, but all my music, pics, extra programs , I even went through all of c drive folders, still something was killing my memory ? it seems to be a good thing to formt and partition once a year at the least.
I am considering getting a 2nd hard drive so I can just swap when needed and have it ready to go. I just don't get what can hog you're pc to a slow that nothing can pick it up. But anyway Thanks for all of your help

Defragment your hard drive. Defragmenting frees up hard drive disk space by bringing all of your data together in one place on the hard drive. Empty your Recycle Bin this will remove programs and delete files that you no longer use, including temporary files and Internet cookies. Remove programs in the "Add/Remove Programs" list.
