Presario problem

Some one asked to me repair a Compaq Presario 2200 sn 2740BP72A878 for them. Here is what happened. Somebody reformatted the unit for her and installed Windows 98. She had the QuickRestore disk for the unit but they did a reformat from the boot floppy. What that did was remove the non dos partition required for bios settings or something. ( oh boy, very technical, "or something")

I did a search on the net for this problem and came up with the following.

Hi. IM an ex Compaq Service Technician. YOur problem is, that when you repartitioned your hard disk.. you've actually removed a Non_Dos Partition that the PC stores it's BIOS information on. Your restore CD will not load without this partition. You need to go to the Compaq Website and download Softpaq 10245. Cheers.

I did a search on the net for the Softpaq 10245 file but cant seem to find it. Does any body know how I can fix this problem? I would really like to get this thing back up and running but without the proper partion it seems the modem, display adapter and sound drivers wont work right. HELP. Daniel

Hi Daniel,
Follow for the software and drivers to the OS you want (win98 win95)
This should get you most if not all of the drivers you need.

Heres the scoop. I got the modem and display back up ok but there is a problem with the sound. The drivers for this system are Cyrix Xpress. I downloaded them and installed them on the pc. When I go to device manager it says the sound card is running. When I try to play a cd the cd player comes up but no sound. When I try to go into volume control there is nothing there or it just doesnt open.If I go to start, programs accessories, entertainmeant and click on volume control it wont open either. What am I missing? Daniel

Do you have any sound at all ? (windows)
Are you connected from your cdrom to the board (sound card)?
Can you access sound in control/panel?

Tried everything possible. Im beggining to think the drivers are not the right ones. When I look at the sound card it says it is operating correctly and no conflicts. Must be drivers or the sound card itself. Unfortunately Compaq does not support the drivers any longer.
