I have a HP6740C computer that was becoming so unstable I decided to re-format. I used the disc that came with it to do so. However when I tried to restore the info it would either stop part way through or reboot. When I looked at the disc it has numerous scratches although I've never used it before. HP can't help me as apparently they've stopped distributing those discs.
I've installed Windows 98, but many things don't work any more. I have no idea what drivers are missing. What are my options?

#1. Did your install of Windows98 go ok?
#2. What do you mean by "..when I tried to restore the info...."?
If you mean installing your hardware let us know, we'll walk you through it.

No. Not the hardware. The Restore disks that came with the computer had two disks. They completely reformatted and then re-installed the original information. I got the reformat part done, but it stopped during and recovery part.

So... is windows98 functioning alright? Starts/Runs Shutsdown?
You need to get stuff like the modem running? Please be as specific as you can.
Usually the second disk has things like the modem drivers, keyboard drivers, etc. on it.
If you mean recover personal information that you had previously, thats not going to happen.

Modem drive cam be found
Built in sound card drivers are
Video drivers are
Keyboard update driver from HP
These will all work on your HP6740C I have a friend that has the same
HP as you and I have installed these drivers for him after he lost the restore CD.
