Unknown Driver running at 16 bit/ms-dos compatable

Postby FoxRacr17 » Sat Oct 18, 2003 6:31 pm

Ok, lately my computer has been running slow, and i have just found out why, when i right click on my computer and the click on the performance tab, it says both "Compatibality-mode paging reduces overall system performance" and "Drive C is using MS-DOS compatability mode file system" When i click on help, it doesnt tell me which driver is running in 16 bit instead of 32. Do you know how i could find out which driver is running in 16 so i can update it so my system wont run so slow?? Thanks in advanced.

From searching it sounds like a virus. (Trojan) Update your Anti-Virus and run it. Also you might want to run and .
a good reference.

Thanks brad, i found that web site in my own search, and i updated both of my antivirus software and neither of them found anything. I'll try spybot and swatit, i didnt think about those. And i just started thinking, It said drive C, which is my hard drive. Would that mean that i have to update the driver for my harddisk??

There are a number of things that can cause this:
An "unsafe" device driver, memory-resident program, or virus hooked the INT21h or INT13h chain before Windows is loaded.
The hard disk controller in your computer was not detected by Windows.
The hard disk controller was removed from the current configuration in Device Manager.
There is a resource conflict between the hard disk controller and another hardware device.
The Windows protected-mode driver is missing or damaged.
The Windows 32-bit protected-mode disk drivers detected an unsupportable configuration or incompatible hardware.
You are running Windows Millennium Edition (Me) and have used Drive Copy 2.0 by Powerquest to copy the contents of one hard disk to another hard disk.

Microsoft has an article all about this problem and how to fix it, you can read all about it
