Hijack This Log (aurora popup)

Postby iorek64 » Wed Jun 08, 2005 11:11 pm

I've had a lot of trouble with spyware recently, especially with a popup ad called "aurora". I think it has something to do with nail.exe in the HT log. Please help guys, winamp and divx are both going haywire, i hope its not because of spyware.

Please copy this to Notepad and print it. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.
You should not have any open windows when you are following the procedures below.

Please download Nailfix from here:
http://www.bnjgraphics.com/nailfix.zip
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Please download
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode
After you see the BIOS screen and before Windowes starts to load.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears.
Use the Arrow key to ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

Once in Safe Mode, double-click on Nailfix.cmd
Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear,
and a window should open and close very quickly this is normal.

Press Ctrl/Alt/Del and"End Task"or"End Process"on each of the following:
(They may or may not be there)
SearchAssistant
sidesearch

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. (Turn it back on after this is repaired and you've rebooted.)
Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:

O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

You will also have to find and check a random named file like:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [random name] c:\windows\system32\random name.exe
the last on was:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [rvztmuh] c:\windows\system32\qaxtje.exe
write this random name down to delete later

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:
SearchAssistant
sidesearch

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Remember to reset these when done.

Now run KillBox and paste the below into the text box:
c:\windows\system32\qaxtje.exe
Now put a check next to 'Standard file kill' and 'End explorer Shell while killing file' next click on the red X

Do the same for the random named file you wrote down from above

Now, empty all your TEMP Folders, Temporary Internet Files Folder and then empty your Recycle Bin, reboot and post a new HiJackThis log.

We are almost there

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. (Turn it back on after this is repaired and you've rebooted.)
Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [xpyucl] c:\windows\system32\hxzriba.exe

Now run KillBox and paste the below into the text box:
c:\windows\system32\hxzriba.exe
Now put a check next to 'Standard file kill' and 'End explorer Shell while killing file' next click on the red X

If Killbox can not delete the file then select the "Delete on reboot option" click on the red X
click yes to delete and yes to reboot now

After reboot post a new HiJackThis log.[/b]
