Scanning slave drives

I hope this is right place to post.

I do alot of computer repairs, using customers H.D.D. as slave, now is it possible to run Adaware, Spybot to scan a slave drive? I know you can scan for viruses that way and check for errors and I havent tried using those tools yet on a slave drive but was wondering if it can be done. Any info is welcome.

Ad-aware will scan multiple drives.
or
Install them on the Slave drive and run them.
