New virus?

Postby freelobotomy » Sat Aug 28, 2004 9:04 pm

Booted up this afternoon and automatically my AVG Virus Scanner finds RCSE.exe in my Application Data file. I ran my scanner but this file can't be deleted by any means that I have. A google search turned up nothing I could find useful so I headed over to TrendMicro and ran Housecall. No luck there. Each time Housecall tried to scan the file, My AVG would pop and & tell me it found the virus and I should run AVG. Housecall finally ran on this folder & didn't find anything. ARRGGHH, what a vicious, maddening circle! Anyone seen this or have any clue as to how to remove it?
Thanks

Edit: AVG says "Trojan Horse Collected.AG" Move to Virus vault tells me it cannot be removed.

Download Hijackthis---Important---Create a permanent
folder
EG---- Open MyDocuments----Right click an empty spot and select NEW---Folder----Name the new folder HJT ---this is where you will want to save Hijackthis too, also, backups will be stored there.Download from here

http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe

Do a SCAN----Scan will change to SAVE LOG----copy and paste the WHOLE contents of the log
here... Don't try and fix anything yet----It is all important.

Looks like this could tell a few things about me but what the hey. If you can figure this out, I'll sing your praises from the roof top! Btw, my daughters' 'puter is connected to this network but I haven't checked it yet. As you can see, I run ZA pro, AVG and I'm behind a new Netgear Super G router. Wonder how I became "afflicted"?
Thanks

**(Always create a Folder for HiJackThis anywhere but your Temp/Temporary Internet Folders. This is where it will save the backup files needed if there's a problem.)**

Press Ctrl/Alt/Del and "End Task" or "End Process" on each of the following: (They may or may not be there)

rcse.exe
jusched.exe

Turn off System Restore. (Turn it back on after this is repaired and you've rebooted.) Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = localhost
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Tria] C:\Documents and Settings\Ken\Application Data\rcse.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\bin\jusched.exe

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - (no file)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Sun Java Console - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - (no file)

Go to Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs and remove the following if they are there:

Tria

Now delete these Folders or Files that are Highlighted: (You may need enable "Show all Files" and disable "Hide System Files" in Windows Explorer / Tools / Folder Options / View Tab) (You may have to boot to "Safe Mode" in order to delete some Files/Folders)

C:\Documents and Settings\Ken\Application Data\rcse.exe
C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\bin\jusched.exe

Now, empty all your TEMP Folders (WinXp has up to 4 of them) / Temporary Internet Files Folder and then empty your "Recycle Bin" and Reboot.

Run HJT again and post a new logfile.

Thanks Cactus, it doesn't seem to be there any longer. I'll attach my new log file in a sec for you to look over. Of course "being fixed" just isn't good enough for me. If you could give me a little background, I'd certainly be interested. How could this happen & where did you find out how to fix it? BTW, Tria was not in the Add/Remove programs. Please let me know and thanks again!

At some point you must have had either Demo game mentioned below installed on your pc.
The rcse.exe file is related to the IndyCar Racing II and NASCAR Racing games.

BTW...your log looks good.

Any idea why RCSE.exe would start showing up as a Trojan? I'd love to know where you get your info if only so I could help others. Either way, as promised, I'm on the roof top now, singing your praises! :^)
