IP Tracing

I am curious about how easy someone can trace the IP address of another's computer? Assuming that my computer is behind a firewall, or that I'm working in a large corporation which undoubtably has a fairly secure system, can anyone find out information about me by whatever means, such as email headers or file uploads?

I used to think that to get past your ISP took some sort of legal steps. Is this not true anymore?

Neotrace is good too. If you just want to trace an IP open Command Prompt and type tracert then the IP address, so, tracert 000.000.000.000 or whatever the addy is.

If you type ping then the IP it will tell you if the system is active.
