Hi, I was fixing up my old computer with Windows 98SE on it, it installed all the drives correctly but the sound doesn't work correctly. It will play most sound files, but 2 that I've noticed so far (.MID and .RMI).

I hope someone can help me here.

First lets make sure that your setting are right:

Click Start, point to Settings and then click Control Panel.
Double-click Multimedia, then click the Midi tab.
Under MIDI Output, click the Single Instrument option to select it, and then click Midi For Internal FM Synthesizer (or equivalent).
Click OK, and then close Control Panel.

If that doesn’t fix it you might have to update the drivers.
What is the make and model of your sound card?

Okay that didn't work, (The Single instrument Said Roland MPU-401)

My Computer Says These for sound in the device manager (Hope I'm doing this right)
Crystal Audio Codec
Crystal Audio Codec Game Controller
Gameport Joystick
Mpu-401 Compatibel

The Makes of the Two Crystal ones are Crystal Semiconductor and that's all I know about it right now,

That really does not tell me what I need to know so I’ll have you download Everst
You can download Everst from
Unzip everst.zip and run the everst.exe inside the folder once everst load
go to multi-media then pci/pnp Audio this should list the make and model of your sound card.
From there we can get you the right drivers

The trick is to know what drivers/chip set to look for, Everest does that.
Then I just go to driversguide.com and search
