Is IE still associated with html/htm files, and is it still the default browser?

Yes, it works all the way, only the original icons are gone. So, do you know a way to get them restored?

"Right Click" on the file and choose Properties / "Change Icon".

Dearest Brad,

i do have the option change icon in the properties, but it let's me restore to 4 default icons, not the original one.

if we keep getting closer, we'll end up finding it (i think)

Is the IE default icon there?
What was the "original" one? If you mean the custom icon that came with the shortcut when you saved it as a Favorite, they have disappeared before on mine. I believe it's a TIF deletion that causes that. Mine always default back to the IE icon.

Yes to all your questions. It is really not a big deal, but it helps for locating them fast. I guess we're stuck with the default icons then?

The custom icons you will see in your Favorites come from favicons that are provided from websites you visit. This file is located in the Temporary Internet Files and as you either dump the TIF or go to other sites they will be replaced with the default IE shortcut.

Now I don't like the default IE shortcut. :) PC Mag use to have a program called FavOrg that would check all your links in your Favorites and then make a copy of the favicon in a folder in the FavOrg folder in the Program Files so it does not get replaced. I am sure other programs are available to do this but I have used this program for years so it is the only one I know about. I don't think it is available anymore so I have placed a copy of the program on a server so you can download it if you like.

If you are having problems in general with other icons then you may need to dump your ShellIconcache to correct the problem. If this is the case let me know and I will give a link for a program that will help you do this.
