ScanDisk On StartUp + Black Screen

Postby ian7 » Thu Jul 08, 2004 9:48 pm

Hi folks this is a lil hard to describe.. So here goes.. I right clicked on C:/ in My Computer (OS: Win Xp Home).. I then went to Properties.. I then selected and ticked both boxes in the scandisk.. I think one is automaticly repair probs.. Anyway I then went to msconfig and ticked the mode to start in safemode as reccomened by some website... Then I told my PC to restart.. So it started to re-boot but gets stuck on this black screen and the red light on computer is constantly red... Is this normal and is it takin a long time cos I asked it to scan for and also fix any probs while it boots up? One more thing... How do I get safe mode if my PC is on a network? I did it once but can't recall how.. I press F8 but theres not mention of Safe Mode.. If I press Esc or Return at screen (blue with yellow text) it goes back to the black screen (wiv no text)

F8 normally gets you to the menu where you can select safe mode - what options do you have when you hit F8?
