Hello, I have a brand new HP laptop computer that hasn't been causing me any problems until now. For some reason, I can't close my webpages anymore. I don't know what to do. As soon as I open a webpage or if a pop-up shows up, they can't be closed. They just stay there until my computer tells me that none of them are responding and they close them out. I ran windows update and messed around with some of my computer options, but no luck. I don't know what to do. What should I do?

Well, you don't give a lot of info........ Are you using Internet Explorer 6?
Have you updated and ran your Anti-Virus?
The next thing I'd try is deleting the Temporary Internet files. Tools / Internet Options / General Tab / "Delete Files". (And "Cookies" while you're at it.)
Not sure what "settings" you changed but it sounds like you've just gotten some spyware from surfing. Try running . Make sure you update it, also.
For a good Pop-up stopper I use and it works great.
I'm sure the other folks here will have some other suggestions as well.
You can repair your IE browser but I wasn't going to suggest that until you respond to the above suggestions.

Okay, sorry...I should have provided more info. Anyway, yes I have Internet Explorer 6 and yes I ran Norton AntiVirus TWICE and there were no viruses found on my computer. I already deleted my temp files and cookies.

Here are some more info. When this problem first began (a few days ago) I downloaded this really bad mp3 file sharing program called Ares (or something like that). After running it for 5 minutes, I uninstalled it. When I went to Internet Explorer I had this really annoying menu bar below my address bar. I went to windows explorer and looked in my program files and deleted it. When I started Internet Explorer again the bar was gone, but now my windows wouldn't close. Does any of that info help?

Nevermind, I fixed the problem. I just downloaded and installed a new browser (mozilla). It works great. Thanks for the help.
