C++ runtime library errors

Postby jolted88 » Fri Oct 03, 2003 10:39 pm

:bummed: I am experiencing a microsoft visual c++ runtime library error with every game that I try to play. When I first started getting this error the game would at least load, but the textures and such were very choppy, but now when I start a game it never loads and the error pops up almost instantly. I updated and flashed my bios with the most recent version, uninstalled and reinstalled my video card driver, ran a full system virus scan (No viruses found) and updated my directx to the latest version. After looking in my online scanner activity log I noticed this had happened 3 times within 6 minutes(FOUND A STRAIN OF VBS.KAK IN C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\DON LAESSIG\LOCALSATTINGS\TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES\CONTENT.IE5\5CJT14D\ZA1.HTM action taken:deleted. I cannot think of anything else to do short of giving up my pc gaming. Any help on diagnosing and repairing this error would surely be appreciated.

If I had to guess without knowing the exact error message
I would say it sound like a Dynamic Link Library (.dll) file is the wrong version, missing or corrupted.
This often happen when a new program is installed and it overwrites a .dll file
with a pervious version of that .dll file, without checking to use the newest version.
Could you please post the exact error message that you are receiving and what OS you are using?

As Gecho said, .dll may be the issue. After trying his suggestions look at this:.
Also, this could be spyware related. Try running .
There are many reasons for this error. Such as:
1) You don't have the hardware required to run the game
2) You don't have the required windows platform to run the game
3) You don't have a component it needs to have installed and registered on your machine
4) You don't have permissions to update certain files or you don't have administrator rights on your machine.
Let us know........brad

I have found a lot of the exact same errors when DivXTotal Pack or divx is installed. Are you running divx? You might try uninstalling the divx codec.
Also, do you have the latest and/or updated DirX?

Try this, click start, click run type “dxdiag” (without the quotes) click OK.
This will launch the DirectX Diagnostics program, select the Direct X Files tab, and now scroll through all the .dll files looking for one that has an older date than the rest.
While you’re in the DirectX Diagnostics, program select the Display tab and make sure the three DirectX features are enabled. In the Notes box look for any problems that my have been found. You can also test your Direct Draw and Direct 3D from here. Now work you way through the rest of the tabs checking the Notes box for any problems that may have been found.
Please post back with anything unusual that you may have found.

Hey Gecko, I ran the direct draw and direct3d tests within the dxdiag tool and the tests for the direct3d did fail. As far as finding dll files that are older than the others I'm not sure what you mean because there are many different dates for these files, so I decided to paste this page into my post so that maybe you could look at these. The results for the direct3d tests are at the bottom of the page. Brad I'm not sure what Divx Total pack is but I don't believe I'm running it.--------------------------------DIRECTX COMPONENTS---- ddraw.dll: 5.03.0000.0900 English Final Retail 12/12/2002 00:14:32 257536 bytes

Ok, until Gecho posts, I suggest setting your refresh rate to "adapter default" instead of optimal setting ...
After searching your results I've found more than one case where this solved the problem.

Hey Brad, If by resetting my refresh rate to adapter default you meant reducing my hardware acceleration to basic acceleration, I did that and then ran my counter strike game. The game loaded but told me my video card does not support the open gl mode and so I switched it to software mode and the game completely loaded and ran. If this is not what you meant by resetting the adapter refresh rate to default then maybe you could explain to me exactly how and where to do this.

 Ok guys I figured out what my problem was. As it turns out my 8 month old geforce3 ti 200 64mb video card which was never overclocked and as well maintained as a video card could be, took a crap. I had an old 16mb tnt vanta card that I had, installed it and low and behold everything works great. So I absolutely "thank you" for your time and effort in trying to resolve my problem.
