Another XP keeps rebootin

Postby fishoutofwater579 » Wed Jan 12, 2005 6:45 pm

My XP whenever the the system just sits idle or when I go to change the display settings. Basically whenever the video card has to do something it restarts. What does this say? I don't think it is the video card. Is it?

I had exactly the same problem... I think it's the Ram. However, just check well for viruses and spyware etc... use some Utilities (I suggest TuneUp) and clean your registry etc... if the problem remains, just start testing with hardware, remove one by one ram sticks, and try to change their place too. And think it's the VGA card (which I think it isn't), if you have another one exchange them, and see what happens.

Tell us

I have changed the Videos and that has not helped not a bit. It does the same thing. I have also reinstalled XP because it was just reinstalled anyways. So it wasn't the OS. Did you mean the RAM of the video card or the sticks bc I replaced the sticks just for the heck of it but it didn't work.

I mean the Ram Sticks, eighter one of them is faulty or something, you have to pull them out one by one and switch it on everytime, and repeat.

You can do memory tests too, had never used memory tests applications though. Try the first method.

Well what I am going to do is I found this post from another site and it said to completely get rid of all of the drivers with some driver cleaner and then download the new drivers from ATI. It said it worked so I am going to give it a try.
