windows security center

Postby goo » Sat Feb 19, 2005 11:55 am

im running windows xp with sp2. i dont need its firewall because i have norton's firewall installed with the antivirus (worm security i think its called)

ill be referring to this window:

i dont want automatic windows update. in fact i dont want windows update at all. i turned it off thats why a message at my system tray keeps popping up.

how do i remove that message or prevent it from ever showing again. please dont tell me to turn it on or just set it to notify me. i dont want to be bothered by it again.

i think its the wscntfy.exe. it starts with windows i think but its not on the "Run" key of HKLM or HKCU in the registry. i might be wrong though.

is there a way ? thanks!

Ok in the security center window under where it says manage security settings click on the automatic updates then you can choose to turn it off. For your firewall click on the windows firewall selection and turn ot off. Then in the resources box on the left side click on "change the way security center alerts me" I usually uncheck all 3 of those options.
