Start your computer from the Windows XP CD-ROM, pressing ENTER to set up Windows XP,
and then pressing R to repair, then select your old installation.

You may lose data that is stored in the All Users folder and you may lose default program templates and settings
that are stored in the Default User folder after you reinstall, repair, or upgrade Windows XP.
Also, Start menu shortcuts, items in the Startup group, and documents, pictures, or
music files that are stored in the Shared Documents folder may be missing.

Thanks for the reply G.

So if I setup a folder, put all my stuff in it and place it outside of the Windows directory I should be ok?

Is it possible that scan/check disk could fix the XP loading problem?

The only way that chkdisk or scandisk would help is if you have a bad sector on
your HDD and that is why windows won’t load.
It’s worth the try I think but it will take hours to go through the hard drive
