Cross over

Postby fishoutofwater579 » Fri Apr 01, 2005 6:07 am

I connected my dad's work laptop to his home computer so that he could transfer files via cross over. The home computer is running XP Pro while the lappy is running 2000 I got them to see each other and I put them in the same work group but when I go to access one of them they will not allow it. When trying to access the home computer's files from the laptop it says that it is not accessible, when going from the home to the laptop it asks for a login and password, which it won't accept. How do I get this to work?

WIndows 2000 demands a password login to get into it from a network. Give your dad a password to go with the name in XP(I'm guessing that you have it setup without a logon prompt). Use the same name and login for 2000 or vice versa. and it should work.

So I have to make a user on the 2000 computer with a name and password so that the the XP computer can logon to it, because when I would logon with his laptop login name and pass it would then change the logon name to \Familyroom\vzzhcq.

I guess I didn't explain it quite right.

When you network to a Windows 2000 computer, the computer you network into it with must boot up and demand a login name and password. If it doesn't you will not get the opportunity to login to the Windows 2000 computer.

If you log in to the XP computer with a name and password, and then go to network neighborhood and click on the Windows 2000 computer, it should give you a login screen. type in guest and no pasword and you should get in. If you want to edit, copy and paste, then make a user account in Windows 2000 like dad with a password of 123. When the login screen apears on his XP type in the Name and Password.
