Problems coming out of my ying yang all of the sudden!!

I have the D-Link DI-604 router and just tonight this started.

About every 30 minutes, I will be signed out of MSN Messenger and my internet stops working, i cannot load any web pages, nothing works. I have to go into network connections, and fiddle with the LAN and internet gateway to get it to work, after about 5 minutes it will.

My question is this. My modem, goes into my router, from my router, the #1 spot goes to my PC, the #2 spot to my parents PC. Now, when I open network connections, all I should see is 2 connections under LAN or High-Speed Internet, and nothing else right? Instead on the top I see it says Internet Gateway, with a connection there, PLUS the other 2 in the LAN or High Speed connection category. I dont think I ever had this before? Or am I wrong?
