Will try that, do I download AVG before deleting McAfee? I don't want to be left open to attack.

Absolutly, download avg first then disconnect yourself from the net. Remove Mcafee and install AVG then hop back online and update it. Thats as safe as you can get.

It may not let you uninstall McAfee while running your computer normally. You may have to boot in SafeMode to do it.

Reason:

If I'm not mistaking, McAfee is a service and is used by Windows. So if you try do delete it while the service is being used, You'll get an error saying that it's in use.

To bott into safemode, restart your computer and tap the F8 key right before windows starts to load.

This is only if it doesn't work while running windows normally.
