At the top left of this forum under “Helpful Weblinks” is a link to AVG free edition.
That is what I would recommend for a free anti-virus.

For spyware protection and removal I recommend (free for now)
Another good one is (not free)

For system maintenance and registry cleaning I recommend (not free but well worth the $).
