hal.dll issue with Windows XP media centre

Hi all,

Laptop recently decided to start playing up and now refuses to load Windows XP due to hal.dll being missing or corrupt.

While I understand it is relatively easy to fix with a recovery disk mine was only recently damaged and no longer works (typical on the timing)

My question is: am I able to load my laptop off of another pc via USB and then replace the hal.dll file with a copy of the one on the other computer?

I am trying to get another copy of the recovery disk from the manufacturer but that is sometimes like jumping through hoops.

Any advise would be most welcome.

To replace this file you could use a windows xp boot disk set you can get them from here:

It could be a corrupted boot.ini file as well have, you ever tried to dual boot this system?
