When I right click windows hangs

Well I went ahead and did what you said but It didnt fix the problem. I also replaced my nic card as well and didnt solve it. What I did notice is that it only happens when I right click an office document or a picture. Well any suggestions would be great. Thanks

Are you also running Peer Guardian? Try turning it off if you are.

You say you are running Symantec 10. Is that a corporate version with a server pushing updates to your machine?

You might check the configure section of Symantic Virus scan. It sounds like it wants to scan the file and something is preventing it from completing.

Well I am not running that and I tried turning my antivirus off to see if that is the issue but its not. I also noticed that when I opened the properties of a file and try to change the file type or what is used to open that particluar type of file it does the same thing and I can see it sending or looking for something out on the net but nothing ever comes back. Very puzzeling I just cant figure it out and I scanned for viruses, ran windows defender, spybot, hi jack this, adaware and they all come up with nothing. Maybe there is no solution maybe the final solution is to wipe my pc out and start over I just dont want to cause I just did like 3 months ago plus then it will still bother me as to why this issue is occurring. when you right click what list comes up again ? is there anything u newly installed that you have not stated above? i remember my old computer when i upgraded drivers for it when i right clicked it always slowed down because it added another item to the list when i right clicked and the driver was crappy.. it could be the same if you recently upgraded if not ignore me haha

The Symantic 10 you are running, is is a CORPORATE version?? The reason I ask, if it is installed wrong, it could be trying to update its files and there are none to get, unless you have it pointed to the corporate server.

Also try searching your registry for "\\" entries. If there are any, it would suggest some sort of network drive mapping. Docking a laptop to a desktop can create issues like this.

A hijack log file should show where your computer is trying to reach out too.

Well first off thank you for responding I really appreciate it. I check my right clickmenu and its fine there is nothing new in there or anything out of the ordinary. Yes my antivirus is corporate edition and its pointed to their server to get updates and stuff. One I think I did notice is that it just doesnt happen when I right click but also when I try to open a picture, or document, or even when I try to delete one but its only pictures and documents, like text or word. I thought maybe its office but it happens to notepad documents as well, and then i thought it was my macromedia fireworks program but again it just doesnt happen to pictures. Plus I uninstalled it because I thought that was it and it still didnt help. I also installed zone alarm to see where its trying to go but it picked up nothing so I am puzzled. Check to see what the date is on your virus definitions are they current and up to date? It should say "6/16/06 rev 36."

I know last month we began a push to upgrade all of our systems with Symantec 9.0, to Symantic 10. Normally you install 10 right over 9, but if the version was 9.33 we were told to remove it first and then install 10.

Didn't see anything out of whack in the hijack file--Gecko's the expert on that. The Yahoo tool bars can be nasty, but I don't think that that an issue at this point.

If your virus definitions are out of date, it might suggest that the Server has had a name change or its a bad install. In that case the program would want to scan and hang.

Well I uninstalled my antivirus and that wasnt the problem and then I reinstalled it and defs are up to date, I ran a scan found nothing and the problem still exists. I am stumped I guess I will just have to wipe it out and start over oh well
