Dont know what to call this!

Postby Gstar » Thu Nov 29, 2007 10:40 am

Hi

I came home from work and found that my 3 year old had been playing with my PC. As a result there are some strange happenings. I am guessing she has somehow changed some settings as mostly the PC is working correctly.

When viewing a web page if i click on a new link it takes me back one page so ultimately getting me back to my home page all the time.
I cannot shut down my pc either as when i click on 'shutdown' it just cancels.

Links to programs are also activated just by me putting my cursor on them (no clicking required).

Sorry if this is a bit vague, but the problem is just so odd. I am hoping she has just changed a setting and its easily fixed. I cant track anything down.

I'd appreciate any help you can offer.

(Vista home premium in case its important)

Thanks
Gstar

Ok, i'm really struggling now.

I did a system restore and it failed. An 'unexpected error' occurred.

Basically anytime i want to navigate by left clicking my mouse i tend to get random results. What i mean by this is initially it will take me where i want to go and then either after a few seconds the page will automatically revert to the previous one or if i try to navigate somewhere new the computer seems to take this as a request to go back.

This happens when web browsing but also when navigating around any areas of my pc. I have done a full system scan (running Norton 360) and tried disconnecting my Broadband also.

Windows updates are failing to install also.

Any ideas would be appreciated and please let me know if you need more information from me. Do i need to re-install my OS?

Thanks

Hi Gstar, and welcome to our forum.

It sound like something to do with your mouse settings to me.

Hi and thanks Gecko

I have checked and all things seem ok. I have been advised to disconnect it completely and see if that helps. So, fingers crossed.

Its not easy even to get to the control panel!!
