hey guys, I'm running on windows vista home premium @ 32 bits. I have a gateway laptop w/ 2.0 gb RAM and an intel centrino duo processor... please help me!!

I got my laptop in July, and very very shortly after I bought it, my internet stopped working occasionally. for example, i told it to disconnect from the network, and reconnect, and usually it would reconnect to the internet after about 15 minutes of trying (via "disconnect, reconnect, refresh webpage to check, over and over again). it sometimes gave me the image that I was connected to the network and the internet (the globe picture on the system tray) but still not connect to the internet, but usually it would tell me that I'm connected locally only, and sometimes it wouldn't even connect to the network at all. recently - about a week or so ago, it took a turn for the worse. it is doing this to me multiple times per day, and it won't fix itself unless I restart the computer, and that only works sometimes. some days it just won't connect at all no matter how hard I try.

here's another few symptoms it's been giving me over the last week: when I try to shut down the computer properly, it'll often get pissy at me and won't actually shut down. it'll close explorer usually and give me a black screen, but it's still running. I wait for a few minutes, and it acts like it's restarting, it shows my wallpaper, then gives me a black screen again. I just do a hard shutdown by holding the power button by then.

when I tried to start my computer back up (this only happened a few times, but it happened all on the night my computer took a turn for the worse and that's why i'm telling about it) a few times it didn't even let me log on. It just froze in the "welcome" screen after I typed in my password. In that time my mouse froze in place but the computer still ran like everything was jolly.

I've run multiple scans in McAfee and it doesn't detect a virus. Spybot didn't pick anything up either. I talked to my dad about it (who is a programmer) and he suggested that my registry was screwed up. So, i pranced down to office depot and got myself a copy of registry mechanic, and that didn't fix the problems either.

he suggested that I may need new memory, or a problem with my drivers, but he can't figure it out.

-oftentimes my computer will freeze altogether, minus the mouse. this began a week or so ago as well.

-when my computer is being pissy about the internet connection, it won't connect to LAN either.

-I know the internet part of the issue isn't a problem with my network, because I've taken my computer and tried it out in other places and it displays the same behavior.

can anyone help, or shed a little light on this problem?

Let's see if we can get some more information about your system and the porblems.

Please download HijackThis http://downloads.malwareremoval.com/hijackthis.zip and save it to your desktop.

To extract HijackThis:

1. Right-click your file HijackThis.zip and from the menu select "Extract All".
2. The Extraction Wizard Window will appear, Click "Next".
3. Click Browse and navigate to "C:\" or the "C:\Program Files" and click "Create A New Folder" and call it "HJT" or "HijackThis" or whatever that is easy to remember and then click OK.
4. Click the Extract button.
5. Close the HijackThis.zip dialogue box.

Now double-click on hijackthis.exe and when the window opens, Press the Scan now and save a logfile button and then when it is done, copy and paste the contents of the notepad it opens as a reply to this post.


Next go to Start > Control panel > Administrative tools > Event viewer > look in the system section.

You are looking for any red icons, double click on the icon.
Click inside the 'Description' section then highlight the text and copy and paste it into notepad.
At the bottom of the event window check 'words' and then copy and paste that text also
Then past it all into your reply to this thread.

If you don't show any errors in the event viewer then:
Go to Start > Control Panel > System > Advanced tab > Startup and Recovery section
Settings button > System Failure section > check the box 'Write an event to the system log'

^the above two messages are the most common ones, i got about a zillion of these messages.

The last sleep transition was unsuccessful. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, failed, or lost power during the sleep transition.

Go to Start > Network > Network and Sharing Center > Manage Network Connections. Open the properties of the connection, uncheck TCP/IPv6.

Also are you using Internet connection sharing?
If not then you should turn that off as well.
