Postby ansmwke » Tue May 13, 2008 1:11 am

I have a gateway mx6453 laptop
I cannot figure out how to boot from my vista cd using my external dvd drive.
Does anyone know if this is possible?

Hi ansmwke

You should be able to. You need to go into the BIOS and set the first boot device to USB. Depending on when your system was built, it might not offer that option.

If not, if the laptop has a cdrom, you could build a boot disk that would allow you to boot up and select the usb device and run your program. Here is a link for building a boot disk

I would seriously recommend that you forget Vista and install XP on the laptop. I get two requests a month to get rid of Vista on laptops. Microsoft will be coming out with a real O/S in 2010. Vista is a resource hog.

I actually wanna try to install Leopard on my computer and the internal dvd-rom is kinda crapping out and doesnt read the cd right. I will try to make the boot cd

also, i cannot wait til the funeral for Vista. i thought microsoft would have learned their lesson from windows ME
