XP Welcome Screen

Postby Jazzman » Mon Jun 09, 2008 11:24 am

Hi there. Love the new site design, very slick.

Unsurprisingly, yet again I have somehow screwed up. After getting a new hard drive and a new windows installation, startup was very fast. Briefly. But after installing all of my programs, it developed a fault.

I am the only user and have not set a password, so there is no logon screen. But the blue 'Welcome' screen does come up, and stays there for about 25 seconds. When it goes I get my desktop and AVG seems to have already started, which makes me think that perhaps new AVG has been designed to load before the desktop is shown, but this is pure guesswork.

At any rate it's annoying: finally I've got a decent speed hard disk and a clean slate but already something's popped up to bug me! Damn Bill Gates spending so much time 'welcoming' me. It's very polite and all, but I'd really rather get on with using his software, rather than exchanging polite greetings with it.

Hope somebody out there is familiar with this problem. Thank you as ever.

Development: After various spyware scans, checking services (finding malware there), and whatnot, welcome no longer stays for long. But the previous screen, the blue one that says 'Windows is starting up', stays on for longer than it should. Very odd.
