Hard lockups?

Hello everyone.

My computer is having hard lockups, but it is definatly not related to heat problems. I have checked CPU temp in several different programs, and the CMOS and it is well within working temperatures... so I'm a bit stumped here.

Is there anything else that can cause full system lockups? (cant move mouse or do anything, sound hangs etc).

There are a number of things that can cause a system lock up, first lets see if there is anything you your logs.
Go to Start > Control panel > Administrative tools > Event viewer > look in the system section.

You are looking for any red or yellow icons, double click on the icon.
Click inside the 'Description' section then highlight the text and copy and paste it into notepad.
At the bottom of the event window check 'words' and then copy and paste that text also
Then past it all into your reply to this thread.

If you have no errors my suspicions are, it's a ram stick, I would suggest you test the ram using

Yes I tried to fix the errors and ended up doing an XP recovery, which unfortunately bluescreened my PC. I'm just gonna completely reinstall (lucky I backed up! =D)

Will let you know if the problem continues and how I get on.
