stuck in hour glass

I have Firefox and IE and when i get into each of them i am constantly stuck in a hour glass, frozen in time, i have ran scans, and checks and defrag and anything possible to think of , what else can i do??? very frustrating..............

what scans have you ran?
Can you connect with any kind of messenger or email client?

I suggest updated version of antivir and spybot if at all possible.
