Odd Vista problems.

Well here is the story, one day i was moving my computer desk to a new location and i had to unhook my entire pc and later when i hooked it back up i would get some sort of disk error and it told me to control alt delete to reboot.. Anyway i later found out i needed to do a disk check on reboot so i was somehow able to log onto vista after rebooting over 20 times i set it to do a disk check and it seemed to fix the problem, now my other problem is every time i reboot it does a disk check which can take anywhere from 10 to 30 min and also on top of that my computer randomly locks up for a few min without letting me click anything all i can do is move my cursor. I have never had this lock up problem before until i did the disk check and also i know my computer isn't infected because i recently did a hijackthis scan in the other section which came out clean.

Windows vista service pack 2 32 bit
6320 Intel dual core CPU 1.8 ghz
2gb ram
500 gb HD

To disable automatic disk checking at Windows startup through registry, go to the following registry key:

# Go to Start>> All Programs>> Accessories>> System tools>> Run Command
# In the Run Command dialog box, type in: regedit
# Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentContr… Manager

In the right hand pane, double click BootExecute.

The default value of the key is autocheck autochk *

* means every drive is checked for consistency. Just add /K:C at the end before *. /K switch will disable autocheck on C: drive at Windows startup. So the final value should look like this:

autocheck autochk /k:C *

Thanks for the reply. I followed what you said and i'm new to messing with the registry and i seem to have gotten stuck, i was unable to find the last part here is a screenshot i can seem to find the manager or whatever it is i need to edit.

lets try this instead;
Click Start > Run > bring up a command prompt by typing in "CMD" and type
CHKNTFS /X C: (note space between X and C) and press enter

Reboot the system and it should bot check the C drive

Thanks that seemed to work no more disk check. I also did a disk repair or w/e off the recovery disk so i think the lock ups are gone.

Sorry for the double post but it seem my lock up problems have gotten worse.... My computer sometimes freezes goes to blackscreen and forces me to reset none stop freezing, very long boot times and lag when loading program.. I am backing up all my files and i will repartition my HD i don't think i have any other options.
