Network file sharing with W2K

Postby pdeinc » Mon Mar 15, 2004 4:02 pm

I just added a laptop running XP to my home network that's on W2K. Permissions on the W2K machines are set to 'Everybody' yet when I try to connect with this laptop, it's asking for a name and password. Any other machine running W2k isn't queried when connecting to another W2k PC, why is the XP unit? Nothing I've tried seems to work, what's the secret here?

What have you tried?
Do you have the Winxp Firewall enabled? Try turning it off.
Do you have a separate Firewall installed on the WinXp machine?

Sorry Brad, neglected to get back to you. No XP firewall enabled, problem just seems to be a peculiarity of XP. I just had to go into the W2k machines and put in a name for the XP users so they could connect to those machines. Why it works that way for XP and not the other W2k users is beyond me, anyway problem solved. Thanks
