Need to save it !

Hi to all.
I am still a newbie because although I have had a computer for a year, at 74 you are a little slower learning and when you get to this age you will be the same!
Well after that I will tell you my problem. First when I bought the computer I joined a local computer club and met twice a week for coffee and computer yak, plus they had 12 computers there all on line and I would get lots of computer help and meet new people.
Well after a few months I made a right mess up of my computer (Win98)and at the next meet I told the group and one of them quickly volunteered to come over and look at it Sat (his day off!) He arrived at 10.00am coffee time, so of course my Wife gave him coffee and cookies. Well he said it would have to have a C: drive format and would I like him to do it, I said yes and he started.
This was 10.30am; he was still doing it at 1.00pm so my Wife made him a nice lunch and at 3.30pm another coffee and cookies. Well he finished at 4.30pm and after I said thanks for doing it, he told me I owed him $120.00 for his time. I was shocked but learned a lesson I will never forget (when someone says they will do something for you, ask if there is a charge!
Well I now have a nice new computer with Win XP Pro installed (present from my Wife!) and I have learned how to format the hard drive myself! But I also had a Matrox Marvel G450 eTV video card installed (I love it) and watch movies on T/V from my computer all the time. Well it was such a problem for me getting the video card setting right because it was not compatible with Win XP Prof (they did not tell me that!) I am wondering if there was a folder in my computer that had all the Marvel G450 eTV program etc on it and that I could save it before the format then put it back somewhere so that all the settings would be the same on the video card!
Oh I should tell you that I have two hard drives a 40 GB which is my C: drive which has my O/S on and a 60 GB which I use for movies etc!
Well if you have not fallen asleep by now and can help me, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Bye. gotcha.

With every MS OS, the registry is like the DNA. It holds all the info on how things work and what to make work with what. When installing hardware, there is no way to save this info. The best you can do is write down the "tricks" you do and save it so when it comes time to repeat the magic, you have something to go by.

Hasn't Matrox updated it's drivers to work with XP? :|
