HELP LOST CDRW/DVD DRIVE

Postby gooner1 » Tue May 04, 2004 1:50 pm

Hi. Can anyone help me with a prob i'm having with my Acer Laptop. This morning my QSI cdrw/dvd combi drive ceased to be recognised by my comp.
I have looked in device manager and noticed a screech on the said drive. I have uninstalled my drivers and rebooted and widows has detected my drive and re-installed the drivers..But it still does'nt recognise that its there. :( The message is saying Device drivr for this hardware is corrupted or missing...Code 39. But thats me lost i'm afraid. As i'm not very tech... :(

Can anyone be of assistance to me..I am using Win XP Home sp1. Drive name is QSI Cdrw/dvd SBW-242.

Thanks.....

I've run across a few laptops that would reset the onboard nic to disabled in the bios---its a long shot, maybe your cdrom is now disabled in the bios.

check for bios updates

Hi Brad.

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

If thats what it says in device manager the drivers were not installed correctly. either use your OS cd to find the drivers or go to driverguide.com (good site with most drivers available). Download the drivers from there for your cdrom and then specify the location for the drivers when you reinstall the drivers (in device manager).
