yes, I replaced the eide cable. I tried to manually put the cylnders, sectores and hd's in. Then went it showed the modes. LBA/on 32bit/on PIO/auto. I know what these all are and put the settings accordingly. I just dont understand what it could be. It's like as soon as it recognizes the harddrive somebody grabs the bios by the throat and says stop what your doing.
A little note, I was playing around and set the LBA to off. The bios ran its full cylcle checking and recognizeing the cdrom and the rest of hardware after the hdd. But it then read that it couldnt read drive once it was time to load os. Now, Logical Block Addressing i beleive is for addressing over 500MB of data. So it makes sense to get this error. But why is this the only way for the bios to complete its process? this is a toughy.

If its an old system, it might only be able to reconize a four gig drive max.

The workaround for this was Ontrack Disk Manager--you could see up to 20 gig. But if you were unfamiliar with that program Fdisk/mbr would toast all the data on the drive

I went out and got a used 3 Gig drive and the pc was able to fully POST and recognize drive. So the issue turned out the mobo just can't recognize anything that is larger. Thank you for the support all
