Pc freezes upon shutdown at 'saving your settings'

Postby Soadfan1 » Sun May 16, 2004 9:10 am

Hi there,

I understand this is a common problem amongst XP users, whereby the pc locks up and stays at 'saving your settings' when shutting down. The thing is with mine is that I follow the links to download the patch from windows update to fix it, but for some reason the only place to get the patch is under windows XP rtm and its the way the update guide tells you to get it, however when patching it says ' wrong version of windows'

So I cant do it that way and I'm stuck because every guide or answer I've found directs me to the same place and I cant get it from there, I have all the service packs from the site.

Can someone help me here please.

Thanks

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

Here is the link to where I got it from, however I have just noticed the one I was downloading said for restarting.

Maybe I was looking at the wrong problem.

Its a lock-up upon shutting down the pc not restarting.

Went to your Link....That's the Windows Update Homepage.
It sounds like it's something that's running causing that.

Try this
Under the heading: "The computer stops responding when you try to shut down or restart the computer."
