Strange things happenning!! I think its a virus, help me!

Postby engine_okrad » Fri May 21, 2004 1:38 am

Ok a few hours ago my computer (windows xp laptop) started playing funny.

First of all, a dialogue box which says ''no mdf'' and an OK button popus up, and has a title of actulice. I click ok, then another box with the same title pops up and says ''funk''. I click ok and get a zonealarm alert saying ''actulice'' is trying to access the internet, of course i dont let it.

For some reason also, i try and open windows media player and it happens again, then it says ''the system must be restarted to complete this installation'' and i cant open any windows media files, other times i get a zone alarm sayin wmplayer.exe has changed let it access the net but of course i dont.

i ran both ad aware and spybot, both found things which i deleted, i just dont know whats going on :(

here is my hijack report

Press Ctrl/Alt/Del and "End Task" or "End Process" on each of the following: (They may or may not be there)
msbb.exe
acencI.exe

Turn off System Restore. (Turn it back on after this is repaired and you've rebooted.) Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.freeserve.com/
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=http://www-cache.freeserve.com:8080;ftp=http://www-cache.freeserve.com:8080
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [msbb] c:\windows\msbb.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [acencI] C:\WINDOWS\System32\acencI.exe
O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=http://www.freeserve.com/

Now delete these Folders or Files (You may need enable "Show all Files" and disable "Hide System Files" in Windows Explorer / Tools / Folder Options / View Tab) that are Highlighted then empty your "Recycle Bin" and reboot: (You may have to boot to "Safe Mode" in order to delete some Files/Folders)

c:\windows\msbb.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\acencI.exe

Now reboot. Turn on System Restore. Update Windows because you are very "out of date".

thanks brad, before i proceed though:

can i just use system restore to go back to a few days ago when i wasnt having the problem?

if i stop restore, and the problem isnt resolved, i would have lost all my restore points

what actually is the problem?

finally ''Update Windows because you are very "out of date".'' what do you mean? i always use windows update and install all the things it tells me to! :?:

also, checkin task manager, those processes were not there, what does that mean

Sure, you could revert to a previous date. Yes you'll lose your restore points.
Your IE is not up to date. Your version: MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 (6.00.2600.0000)
Up to date is: MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 (6.00.2800.1106)
