turns out i just needed a working floppy. so everything is almost working. i just need to get my ethernet working and that setting thing doesnt work from a usb does it? it keeps asking for a disk even after i select the drive.

thanks for the help with getting xp running. once the settings are back things should be good. that old hdd was making so much noise and everything i think it needed to be retired before it crashed, again.

edit: seemed i needed sp2 or some other update. it keeps getting an error at the end but seems to have brought everything. this may or may not be related to this but now my computer does that stupid little beeping from one of those little internal speakers. how do i shut that off?

Your more than welcome.

the internal speaker beep is usually related to sound drivers not being installed. Make sure those drivers are installed and working.

sorry to bother you guys again but i dont know whats up with my sound. the only way i can get my sound to work is if i install a program thing 'soundmax' but it is not listed in my add/remove on the old harddrive so im not sure why i need to install it for this one? i just want a driver i dont need a program.

soundmax includes the driver, its all part of the intel chipset. The only difference is you will have an icon next to your clock to control sound, EQ, etc.

yeah thats normal i think. i just find it odd that soundmax is in add/remove hardware now and it wasnt before and my sound worked fine before.
