I went and searched on my PC for bartshel. There were 2 files, 1 being bartshel.exe. The other file has a big people pc logo in front of it. When I rightclicked and went in to properties, it says this is a PeoplePal module, file version 5.4.0.4.8. That means, I can't get rid of the bartshel without getting rid of my ISP. Right?

Problem here is, it calls for the Windows XP disk and I didn't get one with this new pc, just installation discs.

That is a question that I cannot answer. If I were you I would contact your service provider and ask them for help. I wish I could help you more but I have no idea where to go next. Perhaps Brad or some one else from the site can help you better than I can, they have a lot more experience than I do.

As I said above, I've already asked and they can't help. They only want me to call a # for $2.95 a minute and I have NO money to do that. Daniel, you've certainly gone out on a limb for me and I surely appreciate it. Thank you! At least we know what the problem is now. The next step is HOW to solve it.

Ok... Here's my two cents. I've worked on this for two days (along with badpolarbear et al) Bartshel is a problem. Re-read my posts.....from the beginning!
If you don't want to try to remidy this then so be it.
Any ISP that requires software (other than AOL, that I know of...) and asks you to pay for support, is a scam.
The only things you should nead for your connection are: Dial-up Number or IP, Username and password, and their mail settings. That's all.
Try another ISP.

Brad, thanks for all your help. I DID have Wmconnect back in November but had peoplepc installed also. Started having problems with it too and now I realize it was because of PPC. I wonder why I didn't have a bit of trouble the 2 weeks I rented a computer. I had my software installed on IT. I've paid for a whole year of PPc because it was cheaper that way. Little did I know.
Thanks Brad

Well I just downloaded the software and paid $20 for it now I can't open it. I sent them an email to see why! I'll let you know. I have disconnected and reconnected 15 times in 10 minutes. I'm ready to pull out my hair!

OK I ran Ultimate Troubleshooter. Now it tells me to find the Bartshel.exe and disable at startup. OR rename it to bartshel.exe.renamed. In the isp50 folder, there are 2 bartshel, one has the peoplepc logo and the other is bartshel.exe with lots of numbers. When I open IT, there's about 30 things in the folder. Neither one of these will let me rename it. AND how do I disable something at startup? Do I do msconfig? I tried that and don't see bartshel there. I'm really confused. :classic:

You can't rename a file that is use. That's why we've told you to use CTRL/ALT/DEL and "kill" the bartshell.exe several times. Only then can you rename those files.
Why don't you consider another ISP or try accessing this one the "normal" way???

That's what I've been doing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! However, it doesn't seem to make a difference.
Only then can you rename those files.
I'll try it again.

I'd LOVE to but I've paid for a year of PPC.
What IS the normal way?
I really am sorry I'm so damned stupid but ya know, I've tried. Guess I won't bother you anymore.

You're not stupid......
The "Normal" way is to access your ISP by setting up IE or OE to dial your ISP's Number and access via your Username and Password. This doesn't take special software. You just configure your "Dialup Networking" settings to reflect your ISP's requirements.
