Do you have WMP9 installed? If not, that's why you get the error.

Well the only other things I've found are:
Are you logged on as Administrator? You must be to install this update.
Have you rebooted since installing?

Yes, I am logged on as administrator and I've rebooted many times in an attempt to get this update to be recognized by Windows Update.

The installation history window shows:

Successful February 23, 2004 Critical Update for Windows Media Player Script Commands (KB828026) Web site

Successful February 23, 2004 Critical Update for Windows Media Player Script Commands (KB828026) Web site

Successful February 13, 2004 Critical Update for Windows Media Player Script Commands (KB828026) Web site

Successful February 11, 2004 Critical Update for Windows Media Player Script Commands (KB828026) Web site

I've had XP for almost a year now and have been updating it regularly... this is the first time I've run into an update that is so stubborn.

I just checked for updates again and it still says I need KB828026... sigh...

Thanks for your help, Brad... I truly appreciate your time and trouble.

One thing you could try. Go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall KB828026. Reboot and go to the Windows Update site and download again. Then reboot again.
